I don’t know why it is I love Jack the Ripper movies, but I’m glued to them. Even bad ones. I like From Hell way more than I should. Johnny Depp plus Jack the Ripper? Thumbs up.

I got suckered in to another one of those “has new forensic science solved the Jack the Ripper case?” documentaries again. You know the type. One hour on the History Channel or Discovery Channel or whatever.  The first 3 minutes brag about either “new evidence coming to light” or “new forensic techniques applied to the case for the first time.” Then the teaser, “have the Whitechapel murders finally been solved?” The next 56 minutes stretch interminably as the producers do everything they can to stall for time. Usually, they cast the ugliest people they can find to portray late 19th century Londoners.

Finally, in the final minute, the documentary reveals…that the evidence is still inconclusive and the murders remain unsolved. It’s a giant tease.

I watched another one last night. History channel or Science channel…one of those. I knew where they were going (i.e. nowhere). I could see what was in store for me at the 59:00 minute mark. Yet I watched. And got screwed in the end. Again.

These documentaries are addictive as hell, but they are nothing but a gigantic tease. Crap.
